Prepping Your Home for Fall Listing Photography
Key & Co Staging, staging with photography in mind is built into everything we do, and fall requires its own specific approach.
1. Time the Exterior Shoot Carefully
Fall light is golden and directional — beautiful when captured at the right time, harsh when not. We recommend mid-morning or early afternoon for exterior photography, when the sun is high enough to avoid long shadows but low enough to create warmth.
2. Foliage Is a Feature, Not a Problem
If your property has trees with fall color, that's a photography asset. We time shoots to capture peak color where possible, and we make sure the yard and walkways are clean so the foliage reads as scenic rather than neglected.
3. Interior Photography in Fall Light
Fall's lower sun angle creates directional light that can be dramatic inside the home. We position furniture and accessories to work with that light rather than fight it, and we supplement with warm lamps in every room to balance the overall brightness.
Pre-shoot checklist for fall interiors:
• All lamps on, warm bulbs confirmed
• Window treatments open to maximize available light
• Seasonal accents in place — throws, botanicals, warm-toned accessories
• Exterior views from windows cleaned and landscaping tidy
4. The Camera Catches What You Miss
A pre-photography walkthrough with fresh eyes is non-negotiable. What looks fine in person often doesn't translate to camera — a wrinkled throw, an uneven arrangement, a cord that shouldn't be visible. We do this walk before every shoot.
